The Founders' Award

THE NOMINATION PERIOD IS CLOSED.

About the Award

The Founders’ Award is Schwan’s Company’s most prestigious honor. The award recognizes employees who demonstrate the CJ principles of “Integrity, Passion, Creativity and Respect” and whose actions help the company achieve CJ’s core value of OnlyOne (to be first, best or different in the marketplace).

This award was created in 1994 (originally known as the Marvin M. Schwan Heritage of Quality Award) to honor the memory of the company’s founder and to preserve the ideals, qualities and core values that are foundation to the company. The award evolved over time to become the Marvin Schwan Excellence Award, and in 2020 became known as the Founders’ Award. The award is named in honor of the founders of Schwan’s and CJ CheilJedang, Marvin Schwan and Lee Byung-chull, respectively.

Award Guidelines

Each year, the Founders’ Award will be presented to nominated employees who best represent the CJ principles and our core value of OnlyOne. There is no set number for how many employees can receive the award each year. All employees are eligible to be recognized by the award regardless of their position.

Award recipients will receive a monetary prize and other recognitions.

Once an employee is honored with the award, they are not eligible for the recognition again.

Immediate family members may not nominate one another.

Nomination Process

Employees may nominate multiple colleagues for the award, but they are asked to give each nominee great consideration. An employee may be nominated by multiple individuals, but only one nomination is necessary to be considered for the award.

Assistance will be available to any employee who would like to nominate someone for the award including language translation for the forms and guidelines used in the nomination process. Please contact your local or regional human resources representative if assistance is necessary.

Selection Process

Nominations will be submitted to a centralized team within the company.

After the nomination period ends, all submissions will be shared with the leadership teams in each business unit or function. Leadership will then review the nominations and pass their top nominees on to members of the Executive Committee for final consideration.

The Executive Committee will choose the final recipients of the award.

Selection Criteria

Nominees will be judged on their performance and fulfillment of the CJ Principles and their efforts to achieve the company’s core value of OnlyOne, which is to be first, best or different in the marketplace. Specific criteria that nominees should meet include:

Integrity
Consistently complies with company regulations/policies and processes. Does not hide or make excuses for problems and mistakes. Finds opportunities to improve efficiency, simplify, and reduce costs.

Passion
Pursues excellence with a competitive mindset. Regularly challenges oneself by setting higher goals and standards. Focuses on clear and specific goals and strives for excellence in assigned tasks and duties.

Creativity
Aware of the purpose and intent of work and prioritizes appropriately with goals in mind. Consistently seeks for opportunities to improve the existing work products, services and processes. Takes initiative to propose/guide innovative ideas for positive change.

Respect
Listens attentively to others and asks questions to verify one’s own understanding. Accepts suggestions and feedback and uses as an opportunity for improvement. Recognizes and values diversity; open to different perspectives to drive growth and innovation.

OnlyOne – First, Best, Different

The goal behind this core value is to achieve No. 1 positions with our products and services by being either first or best in the marketplace. If we cannot become the first or best, then we must find a way to win by being different. In this category, please show how the nominee enables the company to be first, best or different.

Any additional general information such as employment history with Schwan’s may also be used considered in the selection process.

All information gathered during the selection process will be used solely to determine a nominees’ worthiness for the Award and will remain strictly confidential.
